Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen will meet Thursday

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen will meet in regular session Thursday at 6 p.m. in the temporary city hall at 44 Plaza Drive in the Plaza Ste. Genevieve shopping center.

The city hall is located in the plaza while the regular city hall is being renovated.

In his report to the aldermen, City Administrator Happy Welch reported on the progress of the city hall project.

“Framing and electric/plumbing rough-ins are underway at city hall. The windows are planned to be installated this week in the front and north side while the glass block windows are removed and covered for a short time,” he said.

Welch also announced that he hoped to have new tourism director hired this week.

“We will work on a conditional letter of employment and I will let you know when that person accepts. The individual will not start for two to four weeks, depending on their current job.”

Welch also ipdated the aldermen on the expansion of the wildlife sanctuary on the river.

“Fish and Wildlife have started on the process to accept the property on the east side of the levee from the levee district. The property was subdivided for the purpose of education and recreation. I’m not sure what the timetable is yet, until it is submitted.”

Finally, Welch provided an update on the Fourth Street repaving project.

“Tary Todd with Cochran has completed drawings for the North Fourth Street repaving/stormwater plan with an estimated cost of almost $88,000. This is the section of North Fourth Street we didn’t complete due to drainage issues on the street and an inlet in the middle of a driveway. The cost for the improvement comes out of the street capital improvement line item where we have only $200,000 budgeted.”

Thursday’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. It is open to the public and will be shown live on SteGenTV Channel 991.
