MLC will open new gallery with ribbon cutting

STE. GENEVIEVE – On Wednesday, October 18th, at 11 a.m., the Sainte Genevieve Museum Learning Center will have a ribbon cutting ceremony on its newly finished Mining Gallery.

The mining gallery showcases the history of mining in Missouri with many highlights from our local mining corporations.

The mining gallery is sponsored by Mississippi Lime Co, without whom this new gallery would not be possible.

The evening of October 18 at 7 p.m., the Museum Speaker Series will present “The Story of Mississippi Lime, the City Beneath the City.”

Two hundred feet below where you’re standing, is more than 6,000 acres of buried limestone.

It’s a virtual city underground that operates 24/7 bringing the limestone to the surface.

During this presentation, you’ll discover how limestone was formed; how Ste. Genevieve became a player in the limestone industry; how limestone is distributed throughout the nation; and just what limestone is used for—you wouldn’t be far off if you said just about everything!

The presentation, sponsored by Vern Bauman Contracting,  is free to museum members. Otherwise, museum admission will apply.
