JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Energy invites Missourians to join them in celebrating Energy Efficiency Day Oct. 4.
“Energy efficiency is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to reduce the environmental impacts of consuming energy, said Division of Energy Director Emily Wilbur. “It conserves energy and reduces energy costs for consumers.”
There are many simple ways to conserve energy:
- Seal air leaks around windows and doors.
- Turn off lights when not needed.
- Install a smart thermostat and use it properly.
- To reduce phantom loads (power consumed by electronic and electrical appliances while they are switched off), turn off power strips or use smart power strips.
- Replace furnace air filters regularly.
Recognizing the importance of the energy sector to the State of Missouri, Governor Mike Parson signed a proclamation declaring Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, as Energy Efficiency Day in Missouri.
“Energy efficiency has strong economic benefits,” said Wilbur. “Missouri is home to more than 39,000 jobs in the energy sector, and that sector is expected to continue to grow as we move into the future.”
Many of the state’s energy efficiency jobs are in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning and construction industry sectors.
The department’s Division of Energy promotes the environmentally sound and energy-efficient operations of businesses, communities, agriculture and industry for the benefit of all Missourians. It supports energy efficiency through its Energy Loan Program, Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program and forthcoming efforts under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act.
