STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve County Democratic Club is excited to announce the upcoming Banned Book Auction, set to take place on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, from 2-5 p.m. at the Progress Sports Complex at the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center.
The event aims to celebrate our freedom to read and promote literacy within our community.
The Banned Book Auction promises to be a fun and eye opening afternoon featuring both a silent and live auction, offering attendees the opportunity to acquire books that have been challenged or banned throughout history.
In addition to the exciting auction, we are honored to welcome a distinguished guest speaker to engage attendees in a thought-provoking discussion about the importance of free speech, the value of literature, and the ongoing battle against censorship. Our special guest, Brian Katcher, is a Young Adult author who has had his book, Almost Perfect, banned or challenged by several organizations.
Ste. Genevieve County Democratic Club firmly believes that no book should be censored or restricted, and we are committed to not only celebrating intellectual freedom but also advocating for the right to read without limitations.
The Banned Book Auction provides an opportunity for our community to come together and show support for the right to read.
Doors will open at 2 p.m. for refreshments and silent auction bidding.
At 3 pm, featured speaker Brian Katcher will speak about his experiences as an author, followed by a Q &A.
At 4 p.m., silent bidding will close and our live auction will begin, where attendees can bid on art, books and themed baskets.
