Chester Saints win Regional

Beat No.1 Seed Red Bud Lutheran 14-3; advance to State

CHESTER – The Chester Saints, a St. Mary’s Catholic School -St. John Lutheran School Coop Baseball Team, played an excellent game Monday September 25 beating Red Bud Lutheran in the Regional Final, 14-3, to advance to the 2023 State Tournament.

The Saints are coached by Aaron Petrowske, Head Coach. He is assisted by Blake Huffman, James Knott, and Doug McDonald.

The Saints include Conner Rainey, Hoyt Walls, Reagan Sims, Duncan Bargman, Parker Knott, Blake Petrowske, Ty Tindall, Kevin Korando, Reed Petrowske, Gage Lynn, Rusty Korando, Rhett Creason, Kale Sprengel, and Cole McDonald.

Coach Petrowske said, “In the win, pitcher Reagan Sims pitched all seven innings. That is definitely a highlight! He gave up no earned runs and had no walks for the complete game.”

Red Bud came into the game as the No.1 seed. The fact that the Saints beat Red Bud is a bright spot in their season, but the huge 11-point, 14-3 victory is very impressive.

The Chester Saints came into the game hot, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Red Bud answered with one run in the bottom of the first inning but would not score again until the bottom of the last (7th) inning.

The Saints added two more runs in the top of the 4th inning, five runs in the top of the 5th inning, and four huge runs in the top of the 7th giving them their total, 14 runs.

In the win, the Saints recorded 32 at bats. They scored 14 runs on 14 hits with 13 RBI’s. The Saints reached base on balls 11 times with only three players striking out. They recorded two errors.

Red Bud Lutheran had 25 at bats and scored three runs. They recorded just four hits and had one RBI. No one reached base on a walk and five batters struck out. They had one error.

For the Saints, Reagan Simms pitched all seven innings. He gave up just four hits and a total of three runs. Sims did not give up any earned runs. He did not walk any batters and no home runs. He did, however strike out five batters.

Red Bud Lutheran used three pitchers in the 7-inning game including C. Moll, B. McCarthy, and J. Sachtleben.  Moll pitched 3 innings, McCarthy pitched 3.1 innings and Sachtleben .02.

Moll gave up 4 runs, 4 hits, 3 runs, 3 earned runs, 5 walks, and struck out one Batter. McCarthy gave up 7 hits, 11 runs, 9 earned runs, walked 6 batters, and struck out 1 batter. Sachtleben gave up 1 hit, and struck out 1 batter.

The Chester Saints now play in the first round of the State Tournament. They will play in the quarter-finals Saturday September 30 at 9:30 a.m. in Coulterville.
