Department of Natural Resources announces bidding opportunities for lead service line inventory projects

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Financial Assistance Center has announced upcoming bidding opportunities for public drinking water system lead service line inventory projects. The bidding is open to contractors, engineering firms and any other professional entity capable of completing the work.

Bidders are encouraged to check often for new opportunities at dnr.mo.gov/water/what-were-doing/state-revolving-fund-srf/project-bid-opportunities. Projects that are open for bidding include identification and verification of service line material for drinking water systems. A project could include conducting a detailed records review, an in-field verification or both.

A detailed records review may consist of evaluating records, plans and maps. In-field verification could consist of visual line inspection, excavating, or closed-circuit television investigation. This work will provide the water system a detailed inventory of which service lines are made of lead and the material of the system’s non-lead service lines. Ultimately, service lines made of lead will be replaced to eliminate a source of exposure to lead, which is a public health risk.

This funding helps public water systems comply with the revised federal Lead and Copper Rule requirements, which requires all public water systems to complete an inventory of all drinking water service lines connected to their distribution system. The funding is provided by the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and made available through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.
