Wisper Internet is connecting Perryville

MASCOUTAH, Ill. – The overall goal for Wisper for the past 20 years is to connect the unserved and underserved communities with reliable broadband internet. According to the federal government, any household with access to less than 100Mbps is considered undeserved.

Wisper selected Perryville as a focus of our marketing push because our towers in the area can provide speeds up to 400Mbps and due to their location, Wisper has the capability to service the majority of the town and its outskirts with wireless internet.

Since its inception during the pandemic, Wisper has assisted more than 400 families with the Affordable Connectivity (ACP), and Lifeline Programs which offers discounts on monthly service of up to $30 through a partnership with the Federal Communications Commission. Wisper’s research shows more than 54 percent of the students in the Perry County School District qualify for ACP benefits.

In 2019, Wisper was awarded $220 million from the federal government through the Connect America Fund (CAF), which was designed to connect these unserved and underserved communities like Perryville.

Wisper has several towers in and around Perryville and surrounding areas as part of a $9.6 million CAF investment in Perry County.

Wisper Internet operates on fixed wireless technology. To connect people via fixed wireless, Wisper mounts a transmitter onto an elevated structure, like a communications/water tower or grain elevator. Customers receive that signal in a small dish outside their home, which then transmits it to their router, where they can connect to all their favorite devices!
