DU QUOIN – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is providing an interactive safety education display, child ID wristbands, and safety patrols at the Du Quoin State Fair again this year.
The ISP Safety Education Tent will be located on Midway Drive. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to stop by on the way into the fairgrounds from the Illinois Route 14 main pedestrian gate to obtain a free child ID wristband that will enable troopers to reunite lost children quickly with their parents or caregivers. People bringing kids are also encouraged to take a picture of their child as they enter the fairgrounds so they have a current photo, including what the child is wearing, in case they get lost. This can help police locate a child more quickly.
The ISP Safety Education Tent can also answer questions about employment opportunities for sworn and civilian positions. Those interested can also visit https://illinoistrooper.com/ for sworn employment information and https://illinois.jobs2web.com/ for civilian employment information.
While at the fair, individuals who have questions about a Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) and/or a Concealed Carry License (CLL) can visit the FOID/CCL kiosk at ISP Troop 10 headquarters located directly across the street from the main Du Quoin State Fairgrounds entrance on US 51. ISP Firearms Services Bureau (FSB) personnel will be available through the kiosk Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. FSB agents can assist with new FOID/CCL applications and renewals. Please know your email address, bring your driver’s license or state ID, and FOID/CCL cards, if applicable, to assist in the process.
Fair attendees are reminded that Illinois law prohibits CCL holders from possessing a firearm on any Illinois State Fairgrounds property, including parking lots. Violators will be subject to arrest and fines in accordance with the Firearms Concealed Carry Act. For additional information, visit the Illinois General Assembly’s website: Firearm Concealed Carry Act. (ilga.gov) or visit the Firearm’s tab of the ISP’s home page located at https://isp.illinois.gov/Foid for the FAQ section. A complete list of prohibited items can be found on the Illinois General Assembly’s website.
ISP officers will provide public safety with walking patrols, gate security, monitored surveillance cameras, and undercover officers. ISP encourages the public to come and safely enjoy all the fair has to offer but asks them to do their part in making this a successful, family-friendly event for everyone, and to report suspicious behavior to the nearest trooper on the grounds, or by calling ISP Troop 10 at 618-542-2171, or 911 for an emergency.
