CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. — Get ready for an exciting evening of roller derby action as Cape Girardeau Roller Derby (CGRD) goes head-to-head with Rolla Rockets Roller Derby on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the A.C. Brase Arena, located at 410 Kiwanis Dr. in Cape Girardeau. The event promises a thrilling showdown starting at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 5 p.m.
In a unique twist, the evening will not only be about fierce competition but also about supporting newer skaters. Following the main game, a beginner scrimmage will provide new skaters from around the region a chance to showcase their skills on the track. The event will be even more meaningful as it serves as a fundraiser for Watkins Wildlife Rehab. This organization rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned Missouri wildlife, allowing them to return to their natural habitat.
“We are thrilled to not only compete against some of our friendly rivals but also to provide our new CGRD team members with an opportunity to experience their first-ever scrimmage,” said Diana Slama, one of CGRD’s team leaders. “We hope to see a great turnout of derby enthusiasts and supporters alike.”
The local VFW will be on hand to offer a variety of refreshments, including sodas, adult beverages, and a selection of hot food options, ensuring that spectators have everything they need for a fantastic evening. For those looking to secure their spot early, early bird tickets are available for just $7 through Venmo or Paypal. Tickets will also be available on the day of the event for $9.
