Motorcyclist on a stolen bike leads deputies on a high speed chase

STE. GENEVIEVE — A motorcyclist on a stolen bike led Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase Thursday afternoon that began with an attempted traffic stop on Highway 61 at Bahr Road.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Jason Schott said the motorcyclist failed to yield to the attempted traffic stop and headed south on Highway 61, then turned west on Highway 32, then north on I-55 at speeds of 100-plus miles an hour. The chase went into Jefferson County before the motorcyclist pulled over.

Deputy Schott says the suspect is a white male in his 30s and is now in custody in the Ste. Genevieve County Jail on a 24-hour hold.

Schott said the motorcycle had been reported stolen out of St. Louis County and added that the suspect may be involved in a recent theft in Ste. Genevieve County.

Information in the case will be turned over to the prosecutor’s office for filing charges.
