Henry Lee Norris, Sr., 82, of Millersville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at his residence.
He was born August 12, 1940 in Charleston, MO as the first of 16 children, including 12 boys and 4 girls to Henry Phillip and Addie Mae Bettis (Whittaker) Norris.
Henry and Virginia exchanged vows on January 20th, 1995, in Jackson, Missouri. Together, they crafted a love story that spanned 30 beautiful years, embracing each other’s dreams and passions. A dedicated truck driver with a thirst for exploration, Henry’s eyes lit up as he traversed the country’s highways. Virginia was his co-pilot, and together, they discovered and camped the wonders of this nation. From the majesty of Yellowstone National Park to the historical allure of the original colonies, they sought and found the beauty that surrounded them. She survives him in Millersville.
As a Vietnam War Veteran, Henry proudly served the United States Army for 8 years, 5 of those spent overseas, serving in the 5th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division and 32nd Calvary Regiment earning the title of Staff Sergeant and other commendations including two Purple Hearts, US Army Aviation Air Crew Gunner Wings, an Air Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), Combat Infantry Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and an Expert Auto Rifle, Machine Gun, Pistol, Rocket Launcher, Carbine and Recoilless Rifle Medal.
From his distinguished service in the military, where he earned accolades for his bravery and commitment, to his tireless efforts as a truck driver, Henry’s work ethic and sense of duty never wavered. During the catastrophic hurricane Katrina, he fearlessly joined the ranks of FEMA, bringing hope and aid to those in need during their darkest hours. His extraordinary courage was further demonstrated during the Mt. St. Helens eruption, where he selflessly carried dynamite to assist in the restoration efforts. A die hard Trump fan, Henry loved his Momma, his country and the military. Beyond his unwavering patriotism, one of Henry’s greatest joys in life was being a loving Paw Paw to his two cherished grandchilln, fondly known as “Little Butt” and “Violent Violet.” Their laughter and love kept him going, infusing every day with happiness and purpose.
