Chester Lions Larry and Ann McGuire attend Lions Club International Convention

CHESTER — Chester Lions Larry and Ann McGuire attended the 106th Lions Clubs International Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. They were in attendance with 11,000-plus members and guests.

The convention drew Lions and Leos from more than 200 countries and geographical locations. This was the 6th international convention Lions Larry and Ann have attended.

Lion Larry was very recently appointed to serve as district governor by the International Directors of Lions Clubs. He attended the final day of training to be able to serve as District 1-CS Governor. When Lion Larry was inducted as a district governor, he set an Illinois record. Lion Larry is the first Illinois governor to serve three terms, or as he calls it “Three-peat Gov.”

Lion Larry’s induction immediately followed the swearing in ceremony of Lion Dr. Patti Hill as the international president. Lion Dr. Patti is from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Her motto is Changing the World. “We change the world by transforming our communities. We change the world by working together,” says Dr. Hill.

Lions District 1-CS serves 23 clubs and 500-plus members in the southern part of Illinois, extending roughly from New Athens to Eldorado and all clubs south to the state line. Lion Larry’s goals are to promote local clubs doing more community service projects, retain its current membership, and encourage giving to Lions Clubs International Foundation.

The Chester Lions Club currently has 14 members, and is growing. It meets noon on the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays. The meeting location is at the Chester Eagles Aerie, 402 Hacker Street. Interested persons are encouraged to visit.
