Two 16-year-old girls hurt in Route D crash Saturday morning

JEFFERSON CITY — Two 16-year-old girls were hurt, one of them seriously, in a traffic crash on Route D in Ste. Francois County early Saturday morning.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a girl from Farmington had serious injuries and a girl from Park Hills had moderate injuries. Both were taken to Mercy Hospital South by St. Francois County ambulance.

 

According to the patrol’s accident report, the Farmington girl was at the wheel of a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt when she swerved to miss an animal in the roadway. The car ran off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, became airborne, overturned and struck a tree ejecting her.

 

The Park Hills girl was a passenger in the car.

 

Neither girl was buckled up.

 

The Cobalt was a total loss.

 

The crash happened about 5:21 a.m. in the 5200 block of Route D.
