Three persons injured, one seriously, in Highway 32 crash

JEFFERSON CITY — Three persons were hurt in a traffic crash on Highway 32 in Ste. Genevieve County Saturday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports 60-year-old Joe R. Capps of Advance had serious injuries and 33-year-old Katelyn N. Stafford of Farmington and 35-year-old Danielle N. Stafford of Ste. Genevieve each had moderate injuries.

Capps was taken to SSM Health St. Louis Unversity Hospital by AirEvac; while Katelyn and Danielle Stafford were taken to Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital by Ste. Genevieve County EMS.

Capps was later charged by the MSHP with DWI with physical injury

The patrol says the crash happened when an eastbound 2006 Honda Ridgeline driven by Capps crossed the centerline, striking the front of a westbound 2016 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Katelyn Stafford. After the impact, the Ridgeline continued off the roadway into a pond.

Both vehicles were a total loss.

The patrol says Katelyn and Danielle Stafford were buckled up, while it could not be determined if Capps was wearing his seat belt.

The crash happened about 4:02 p.m. at Siebert Road.

The Ste. Genevieve Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the crash.

The SGVFD posted this summary of its efforts on social media.

“We arrived to find two vehicles involved, one in a driveway and the other was in a pond.

“The driver in the pond was unconscious and had to be ‘cut from the vehicle’. The extrication actually took place under the surface of the water and our guys were working in waist deep mud which amplified the difficulty.

“Despite all of the difficulties we were able to get the driver out and help EMS get the patient to the helicopter and flown to a St Louis area hospital.  There when you need us!”
