Ste. Genevieve County Library announces child’s library card policy

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve County Library announced Wednesday that effective June 20th all library cardholders under the age of 18 will have their access temporarily blocked until a parent or guardian visits the library to give their consent for their child to have a library card enabling them to access all library materials.

 

The notice says this requirement is the result of a rule change at the Missouri State Library required by a Secretary of State rule for the protection of minors.

 

The notice advises anyone with concerns about their child’s library account to call the library at 883-3358 and anyone with concerns about the new reuirement to contact Missouri Secretary of State John R. Ashcroft at 573 751-4936.

 

The announcement says the library will be closed Friday morning to properly educate the staff of this new change in policy and also answer any questions they may have to better answer any questions you may have.

Adults and guardians can come in any time and fill out our new application, doing this will ensure a very brief interruption in services on the 20th.
