Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association applauds passage of legislation to strengthen protections for hotel workers

CHICAGO – The Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association (IHLA) released the following statement applauding the passage of HB 2220, which allows hotels better protect employees from verbally abusive customers:

“Our employees are the most important part of our business, and they deserve to feel safe and supported when they come to work. The extra protection of refusing service or removing customers who engage in verbally abusive behavior towards hotel employees is critical as we continue to combat abuse by customers toward front-line workers. As the voice of both hotel owners and hotel employees in Illinois, we are proud to advocate for this legislation to double-down on our commitment to hotel employees’ physical and mental wellbeing. We appreciate our partners in the House and Senate for supporting this important measure and encourage the governor to sign this proposal into law so we can better protect our employees, and maintain a safe working environment.”
