Gerald ‘Gerry’ M. Holmstrom

A funeral will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023 for 87-year-old Gerald “Gerry” M. Holmstrom of Red Bud, Illinois, who passed away at 1 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2023 at Red Bud Regional Hospital in Red Bud, Illinois.

 

He was born to the late Edwin and Lenora (nee Wasvick) Holmstrom on October 1, 1935 in Breckenridge, Minnesota.

 

Gerry married Nancy S. LeMasters on June 20, 1964 in East St. Louis, Illinois; she survives.

 

He is also survived by three children: Dale (Theresa) Holmstrom of St. Louis, Mo., Gerald (Stacey) Holmstrom II of Palatine, Ill. and Robert (Elena) Holmstrom of Mundelein, Ill.; five siblings: Prudence Thistle of the state of California, Colleen (Stanley) Birkland of Sioux Falls, S.D., Vernon Holmstrom of Las Vegas, Nev., Kathy McMaster of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Delores (Murdeen) Johnson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren: Jacob, Sofia, Lenora and Nikolai; two sisters-in-law: Dale Ann Badowski and Joan Lawrence and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter: Sandra Holmstrom; four siblings: Marvin Holmstrom, Kenneth Holmstrom, Shirley Michaelson, and Larry Holmstrom; and a brother-in-law: Richard Badowski.

 

He was a systems analyst for the United States Government.

 

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Red Bud, Illinois where he served on the finance committee, was a chairman, an elder, and was the vice president of the Men’s Club.

 

He was also a member of the American Legion Post #622 in Prairie du Rocher. Gerry was a founding member of the South Dakota Skydiver’s Club, an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed to paint.

 

He was a 101st Airborne Division Army Veteran.

 

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud, Illinois.

 

A funeral for 87-year-old Gerald “Gerry” M. Holmstrom of Red Bud, Ill will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Red Bud, Illinois. The Revs. Mark Nebel and Brian Nowak will officiate.

 

Interment: will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud, Illinois.
