CHESTER – The Chester Fire Department had a busy end to the week when they were called out twice in a 97-minute period late Saturday night April 29 and in the very early morning of Sunday April 30th.

Late Saturday night April 29 at 11:20 p.m. a call went out over the Chester Fire Department “Text Me Out” alert system asking the Department to respond to 106 Morrison Street in Chester for an extraction from a Ford vehicle.

According to Fire Chief Marty Bert, “A lady with medical issues backed off into the woods on Morrison Street and we had to use a winch from a rescue truck to pull her up far enough to get her out of the vehicle.”

Just a few minutes later at 12:57 a.m. in the wee hours of Sunday morning, a call came in from the “Text Me Out” service to respond to Rt. 3 South of Turkey Bluff for a brush fire.

According to the individual making the call to emergency services, the fire was on the south side of the road near the coal dock on the river bank. The reported fire was supposedly about one-half mile south of the roadway.

Chester Fire Chief, Marty Bert said, “The brush fire was called in by the night watchman at the Lone Eagle Coal Dock. It was unsafe for us to access the area from the road. The fire may have been on Rockwood Island. We are still keeping an eye on that fire this morning (Sunday April 30th).
