Ste. Genevieve mayor and aldermen sworn in

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve city clerk swore in the city’s new and re-elected city officers during the early part of last night’s board meeting.  

Brian Keim was sworn in as mayor, succeeding Paul Hassler, who did not seek re-election. He was sworn in with the aldermen who were elected or re-elected, except for Gary Smith who was not at the meeting due to a family matter.

New Ward 2 Alderman Eric Bennett, and Ward 3 Alderman Joe Steiger and re-elected Ward 4 Alderman Mike Raney were also sworn in by City Clerk Pam Meyer.

Alderman Gary Smith did not attend the meeting.

There was a brief break for cake and congratulations and the presentation of a plaque to Buck Jokerst who ends his city hall service to the community as mayor and as alderman after 34 years.

Then it was down to business.

Ward 2 Alderman Robert Donovan was elected president of the board of aldermen.

The board heard reports from the city administrator, tourism director and fire chief.

The consent agenda was approved.

It included:

Resolution 2023-23: a property maintenance agreeement with Scott Beckermann to maintain flood buyout property.

Resolution 2023-24: a property maintenance agreement with Mary Jo Holland to maintain flood buyout property.

Resolution 2023-25: appointing Sabrina Ford to the Tourism Tax Commission.

Resolution 2023-26: approving a list of city officials authorized to do banking and financial business for the city.

Resolution 2023-27: appointing Clayton Gegg to the board of adustment.

There were no bids received for the Progress Parkway property.

Approval of a bid from Vern Bauman Contracting for the removal of the Blain Streetwater tower.

Approval of the purchase of parts for the wastewater UV system from De Nor Water Technologes, LLC.

The aldermen gave first round approval to Bill No. 4551 for Cochran Engineering for the Pere Marquette Park Trail Rehabilitation Project.

The aldermen gave first and second round approval to Bill No. 4552 accepting a proposal from Metro-AG Inc. and authorizing a contract for the removal and land utilization of lime residuals from the water treatment plant.

The aldermen gave first and second round approval to Bill No. 4553 accepting a proposal from Metro-AG Inc. and authorizing a contract for the removal and land utilization of lime residuals from the wastewater treatment plant.

The aldermen gave first and second round approval to Bill No. 4554 for the purchase of new state approved mobile radios for the fire department from Wireless USA.

All of the votes were 7-0 with one alderman absent.
