Frankin Bridge is closed indefinitely

STE. GENEVIEVE – Here is some bad news for those who depend on the Franklin Bridge to cross Saint Laurent Creek south of St.Mary to connects with Perry County Road 950 and eventually Route H.

Presiding County Commissioner Randy Ruzicka says the bridge which was just recently restored, suffered some major damage during heavy rains last month. Those rains washed away the boulders which were placed around the north abutment. The water then eroded the bank around the abutment and it is leaning toward the creek.

As a result the bridge must be closed to all traffic.

Ruzicka said he doesn’t know when or even if the bridge can be repaired.

He is afraid it needs to be replaced with a longer structure that has abutments further back from the water.
