Perry County voter turnout was 24 percent in yesterday’s school and municipal election

PERRYVILLE – The unofficial returns are in from yesterday’s school and municipal election in Perry County. The voter turn out in Perry County was 24 percent or 2,942 of 12,443.

 

In the contested issues on the ballot:

 

A three per cent sales tax on marijuana purchases in Perry County passed 73-27 percent, while a similar tax also passed in Perryville city 76-24 percent, in Frohna 66-34 percent, and in Altenburg 74-26 percent.

 

Five candidates for three positions on the Perry County School District No. 32 board of education: The top three vote getters were Nancy Voelker with 1,585 or nearly 23 percent, Jamie Robinson with 1,522 or nearly 22 percent and Glendan Sattler with 1,242 or nearly 18 percent.

 

Four candidates for two positions on the Perry County Health Department board of trustees. The top two vote getters were Jeremy Brewster and Gwen (Moore) Schweiss both with nearly 30% of the vote. 

 

Three candidates for one position on the Perry County Memorial Hospital board of trustees: Joe Hutchison won with 48 percent of the vote.

 

Two candidates vied for a single seat in Ward One on the Perryville Board of Aldermen: Seth Amschler won with a two vote margin over Dennis W. House.

 

Four candidates vied for two seets on the Altenburg Public School District 48. The top two

vote getters were Jessica Hecht with 182 or 42 percent of the vote and Amy Ussery with 152 or 35 percent of the vote.
