STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve had taken second out of three teams. Farmington shot a 171, The Dragons shot a 180, and Fredericktown shot a 213.

Ste. Gen’s Aiden Boyer was runner up with a 40. The teams played in harsh wind conditions and all did extremely well. Aiden Boyer is first leading the team with the runner up score with a 40. Aiden had an excellent round finishing it off with a chip-in eagle on hole 9. He also was extremely close to a hole in one on hole six just missing by a few inches securing him a birdie as well. Aiden started out his day extremely strong with two pars in a row. The par on hole one was about a 12 foot putt to save it. Aiden played the wind correctly multiple times to help him be successful under the difficult conditions.

Gavin Huck was next with a 43. Gavin was disappointed with his round, but his round had plenty of highlights. He had outstanding chips that put him in great position on the greens. He started out the day with a double bogey, but he also bounced back with two pars in a row. Once Gavin was able to settle his mental game, his golf game was better as well. After double bogeying a par three was he actually had an excellent recovery shot, he parred the very next hole.

Next was Carter Burr. Carter had a great bounce back match from his tournament yesterday by shooting a 48 today. Carter played extremely smart today and it helped him score. Carter was striking his driver and his long irons again today. He had some tricky situations, but was able to punch shots to avoid tree trouble. Carter had a couple of pars today. Other than one hole he was not happy with, Carter played an excellent round.

Next was Jayden Rhinehart. Jayden ended up shooting a 49. Jayden had a couple of holes that he was not happy with, but he was able to stay in the 40’s by managing his shots and playing smart golf. He had an excellent tee shot on hole four and played the wind perfectly. He also had low drives today which helped him stay out of the strong wind.

Next was Jeremiah with a score of a 50. Jeremiah had some great shots today. Jeremiah struggled on his first par three, but he bounced back and shot a par on the second par three of the day. Jeremiah had one tough hole today, but he was able to stay poised during the round.

Next was Braden Huck by shooting a 53. Braden had some beautiful shots from the fairway, and he was able to do extremely well on the par 3’s today, getting a par and a bogey on the other. Braden again was able to keep his mental game in check and he was able to bounce back after a tough hole.

SGHS places 7th at Cape Notre Dame Tourney

By Ryan Mueller

SGHS Boys Golf Coach

STE GENEVIEVE — We took seventh place out of 11 teams at Dalhousie (April 3) with a score of 382.

This course is by far the most difficult course we will play all season, and the kids were extremely grateful for being able to play it.

Aiden Boyer had shot the overall best for the team. He ended up shooting a 90. Aiden was overall pleased with his final score. This was Aiden’s first look at Dalhousie. He had started the first two holes being one under par. He shot a par on his first par three and followed that by shooting a birdie on the par four to follow.

Aiden shot a consenstant round by shooting a 45 on both the front and the back. Aiden played extremely smart golf today, and had some excellent shots because of that. His mental attitude was fantastic.

He also had the perfect quote to help him stay in the right mindset.

“This may be the only time I get to play Dalhousie; I want to take it all in and have fun.”

Gavin Huck followed him by shooting a 92. Gavin didn’t have the day he had wanted, but he also understands the difficulty that Dalhousie brings. Gavin was able to play smart throughout by putting away the driver on holes that he could get better approaches on with his three wood or irons. Gavin shot four strokes better on the back 9. Gavin had some excellent recovery shots as well. His driver put him in a situation on his second last hole, but was able to have a fantastic approach shot to put him within a chip shot range.

Jayden Rhinehart came in third for the team with an overall score of 97. Jayden’s goal was to be in the double digits at Dalhousie. Jayden had excellent tee shots and played smart the entire day. He played consistently by shooting a 48 on the front and a 49 on the back. He was unable to get a par on the front nine, but he salvaged his score with seven bogeys and was close to bogey golf.

Next was Carter Burr with a 103. Carter had some difficulty on the front nine with a 55, but he came in clutch and shaved seven strokes off of the back 9 shooting a 48. Carter had also played smart and had an excellent putt on hole 14 to save a bogey. Carter played well in the fairway and his best club was his driver and long irons off of the tee.

Next was Braden Huck with a 112. Braden did much better on the back nine than the front with a 59 on the front and a 53 on the back. Braden’s best hole was getting a par on the toughest par three on the course. Braden’s driver also had put him in good locations to have his mid irons help and get him close to the greens.

Ste. Genevieve was scheduled to host Fredericktown and Farmington Tuesday.

The Dragons travel to Farmington today at 9 a.m.

PERRYVILLE – Perryville hosts St. Vincent today at 3:30.
