A little more than one-tenth of Ste. Genevieve voters cast ballots yesterday

STE. GENEVIEVE – Only 10.7 percent of Ste. Genevieve County voters went to the polls yesterday, that’s 1,403 of 13,105

 

Among the contested items on the ballot:

 

A 3/8s percent sales tax to cover the cost of 911 service in the county passed 67-33 percent.

 

A three percent sales tax on the purchase of marijuana in Ste. Genevieve County passed 66-34 percent, and the same tax in Ste. Genevieve City passed 69-31 percent.

 

Two candidates ran for mayor of Ste. Genevieve: Alderwoman Susie Johnson and newcomer Brian Keim. Keim won 462 votes or 67 percent while Johnson had 231 votes or 33 percent.

 

Two candidates ran for for Aldermen Ward 2 in Ste. Genevieve: Sydney M. Strzelczyk and Eric P. Bennett. Bennett, the former police chief won with 87 votes or 58 percent while Strzelczyk had 63 or 42 percent.

 

Two candidates ran for Alderman Ward 3 in Ste. Genevieve: Joe Steiger and Ashley Armbruster. Steiger, a former alderman, won with a narrow four vote margin 91-82, or 51-49 percent over Armbruster, the current alderman, who was seeking re-election.

 

In St. Mary City Collector Katrina Ullman was unopposed, however Proposition C would have eliminated the collector position from city hall if it had passed. It didn’t by a margin of 35 no to 30 yes or 54-46 percent.

 

St. Mary also faced a ballot with no candidates for two aldermen seats. The election was a battle of write ins. Zenon Duda won with three write in votes in Ward 1. Ben Brewster won in Ward 2 with 15 write in votes.
