Local groups team up to get ready for the tourist season

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. — Ste Genevieve Master Gardeners, Ste Genevieve City, and the members of Downtown Ste. Genevieve have organized a volunteer event on Friday, March 31st from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and and Saturday, April 1st from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Organizers and volunteers will meet at the TRH United Passbook each morning to fill containers with fresh soil and colored pansies matching the city’s flag colors: yellow, white, and blue.

Community Impact

USA Today recently voted Ste Genevieve among the top 10 midwestern towns to visit and the groups felt it was an opportune time to build on a theme, build community goodwill, and enjoy working alongside on another.

“Friendliness, cleanliness, and a visually attractive town rank high among the features tourists want,” said Tanalyn Dollar, Tourism Director.

Along with eco-tourism, native plant gardening, Sharon Grass, President of Ste Genevieve Master Gardeners confirmed the need for 2023 Plantfest to be an annual event.

“Building awareness of the power of plants to impact our health we also want to promote the classes offered by the Missouri Extension Service. ‘We can build camaraderie which improves our health and this will resonate beyond our streets. It’s going to be a fun time for anyone who doesn’t mind a little dirt.”

Daily Flag Raffle to Volunteers

At the end of each Plantfest day a new city flag will be raffled to a volunteer to show appreciation.

‘We had a few flags from a past event and this is a nice tie-in for two lucky volunteers. The flags are made of strong material and will look good on display” noted Happy Welch, City Administrator.
