STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen met for regular and work sessions for more than two-and-a-half hours last night.
Chip Marzuco made a personal appearance to discuss the Spring for Down Syndrome event.
City Administrator Happy Welch anounced that concrete replacement will begin Monday on Claymont Street, weather permitting. He said the residents have been notified.
He also announced that the company responsible for payments by phone and credit card is changing with a subsequent increase in some fees. The city will be notifying residents of the change.
Regular reports were presented by Dave Bova, Community Development Administrator; Kenny Steiger, Fire Chief; Tanalyn Dollar, Tourism Director (in photo); Steve Wilson, Alliance Water Resources.
A public hearing was held to consider a request from Michael Monia Jr. for a special use permit to allow guest lodging at No. 12 N. 5th Street in a General Residential District.
The aldermen approved four measures under old business on second reading with 7-0-1 votes. (Alderwoman Kristi Cleghorn was absent.)
Bill No. 4542, an ordinance amending Chapter 405 zoning and Chapter 605 business licensing to bring the city code into compliance with newly adopted state law concerning home occupations.
Bill No. 4543, creates a tiny home overlay zone in the city.
Bill No. 4545, amends the the city’s Chapter 405 Zoning Regulations to regulate marijuana businesses.
Bill No. 4546, authorizes the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Ste. Genevieve Municipal Band.
Four measures were included under new business.
Bill No. 4547, authorizes the city administrator to enter into an agreement with Robinson Outdoor for outdoor advertising in the cities of Benton and Wickliffe (shown) in the state of Kentucky for $2,100 for three months. First and second round approval, 7-0-1.
Bill No. 4548, an amendment to the personnel manual. First and second round approval, 7-0-1.
Bill No. 4549, authorizes the mayor to enter into a $278,614.92 agreement with Jokerst, Inc. for the 2023 paving program. First and second round approval, 7-0-1.
Bill No. 4550, approving a special use permit for Morley Properties to allow guest lodging at No. 12 N. 5th Street. First and second round approval, 7-0-1.
Following the regular session, the aldermen met in a work session.
They addressed an issue concerning public comments during the board of aldermen meeting.
City Administrator Welch presented this issue in his report.
From the discussion, it appears the information will be posted on the agenda rather than creat an ordinance to deal with it.
The aldermen heard a presentation on stormwater runoff from Cochran Engineering.
One of the proposals (shown) is to create a retention pond in an area north of Westwood Drive, which would hold stormwater and allow it to drain gradually, eliminating a current flooding problem at the Market and Ninth Streets. No decisions were made during the work session.
