From Food Safety Magazine
STE. GENEVIEVE – Mississippi Lime Company (MLC) has completed a certification to assure that all of its food-grade operations meet the standards of FSSC 22000, a food safety management scheme recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
MLC has already achieved good results with AIB auditing and certification at its food-grade operations. Adding the certification for FSSC 22000 provides additional assurance that the company is continuously conforming to processes and controls that prevent contamination, protect quality, and safeguard the food supply.
The company’s line of VitaCal® Food-Grade Calcium Hydroxides and Oxides are valuable in many food and beverage applications, where low levels of impurities and good calcium bioavailability are crucial properties. VitaCal® products are used as ingredients and processing aids in foods and beverages, as well as in the synthesis of food-grade ingredients. For example, food-grade calcium hydroxide is commonly used in the production of corn products, tortillas, snack foods, fortified drinks and flow conditioners for table salt and flour.
VitaCal® Food-Grade Calcium Hydroxides and Oxides are manufactured at MLC’s operation in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and is the largest lime facility in the Americas. MLC is the only U.S. producer for these materials that offers grades to meet the standards of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the specifications of the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC). MLC’s food-grade products are also certified as Kosher, and the full Ste. Genevieve MLC site is covered by an ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management.
