Department of Natural Resources issues construction permits for two St. Louis area solid waste processing facilities

JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has issued construction permits to the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District for two new solid waste processing facilities in the St. Louis area.

The Bissell Point Wastewater Treatment Facility – Biosolids Processing Unit will be located at the northeast terminus of East Grand at the Mississippi River in St. Louis City.

The Lemay Wastewater Treatment Facility – Biosolids Processing Unit will be located east of Broadway Avenue and north of Hoffmeister Avenue, and adjacent to the Mississippi River in St. Louis County.

Both solid waste processing facilities will receive and process biosolids by incineration within their service areas.

The department’s Solid Waste Program reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure that solid waste processing facilities are properly designed and constructed. Other technical factors that protect Missouri’s environment are also examined. An operating permit must also be issued before the facility can accept waste.

Questions and comments regarding the proposed processing facility or the department’s role in regulating solid waste processing facilities may be sent to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Waste Management Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176 or by phone to David Drilling, P.E., chief, Permits Unit, at 800-361-4827 or 573-526-9545.
