Vernetta A. Heil, 90 years old of Sainte Genevieve, Mo. passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023

at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, MO

 

She was born December 28, 1932 in Zell, MO

 

She married John Orem on June 23, 2007. He survives in Ste. Genevieve.

 

She is also survived two sons: Donald (Judy) Heil, Jr. of Sainte Genevieve, Mo.and Jeffrey (Kelly) Heil of Sainte Genevieve, Mo.; five daughters: Victoria (belated Dr. Eric Raefsky) Heil of Chesterfield, Mo., Linda Heil of Sainte Genevieve, Mo., Jean (Belated David) Otte of Sainte Genevieve, Mo., Lois Rathert of Chesterfield, Mo., Jennifer (Timothy) Heller of Sainte Genevieve, Mo.; two brothers: Herbert Bauman and David Bauman; a sister: Henrietta Bartels; grandchildren: Elizabeth Wilkerson, Todd Heil, Christina Gegg, Catherine Rozier, Kevin Otte, Dana Goodman, Sally Heil, Bailey Rathert, Kaydi Heil, Gage Heil, Abigail Heller, Etta Heller; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; stepchildren: Pamela (David) Mazur, Leslie (George) Saab, John R. (Laurie) Orem, Nancy (John) Lyman; step-grandchildren: Mark Mazur, Katie McKenzie, Matt Mazur, Nicolas Lyman, Caroline Orem, Jonathan Lyman, Olivia Lyman, and Margaret Orem.

 

She was preceded in death by: her mother: Grace (Grein) Bauman; her father: Fred Bauman; her first husband: Donald Heil, Sr.; three brothers: Francis Bauman, Norbert Bauman, and Carroll Bauman; and three sisters: Rosemary Meyer, Rita Ramer, and Jane Kniestedt.

 

Memorial visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, February 17 at the Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve.

 

A memorial service for 90-year-old Vernetta A. Heil of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 18 at the Church of Ste. Genevieve. The Rev. Edward Nemeth will officiate.

 

Burial will follow at Valle Spring Cemetery in Ste Genevieve, Mo.

 

Memorials may be made to Ste Genevieve Museum Learning Center, Valle School Foundation, or The Foundation for The Restoration of Ste Genevieve.

 

She was vice president of Don Heil Oil Company, a member of Ste. Genevieve Museum Learning Center, director of The Foundation for the Restoration of Ste Genevieve, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and The Red Hat Society.

 

Vernetta was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

 

She was a fantastic cook and loved to bake. Vernetta made sure everyone was treated fairly and was a pay it forward person.

 

She enjoyed going to Florida during the winter and was a wonderful dancer.

 

Grandma had a passion for garage sales and visiting Goodwill.
