STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Police Department has announced the arrival of K9 Ozzy.
“We are proud to introduce Officer Cusanelli’s new partner K9 Ozzy! We would like to thank the Board of Aldermen and Alderwomen, the Mayor, and the citizens of Ste. Genevieve for making K9 Ozzy’s recruitment possible,” the police department said in a post on social media.
K9 Ozzy was trained at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Penn. He is a 19 month old German Shephard from Poland.
“He is full of energy and ready to hit the streets,” the announcement stated.
K9 Ozzy is a dual purpose dog.
His training included:
Narcotic detection
Suspect apprehension
Building and area searches
Article search for evidence
Tracking for persons
Ste. Genevieve Police Officer Cusanelli spent two weeks at Shallow Creek Kennels getting to know and training with K9 Ozzy.
“They bonded quickly and they look forward to serving the citizens of Ste. Genevieve,” the announcement stated.
K9 Ozzy hit the ground running on his first day of service, 01-27-2023, with two separate “sniffs” resulting in the location and seizure of methamphetamine on both incidents.
