One Ste. Genevieve Manor apartment resident dies, three are hurt in Saturday fire

STE. GENEVIEVE – One resident of the Ste. Genevieve Manor Apartments was killed and three other injured in a smoky fire Saturday morning.

 

The Ste. Genevieve Fire Department reports the call to Ste. Genevieve Manor Apartments, 733 Parkwood Drive came in at 9:29 a.m. after a passerby reported seeing smoke coming from a first floor apartment.

 

In addition to the Ste. Genevieve Fire Department, crews from the Zell, Ozora and St Mary Fire Departments responded.

 

The first fire units arrived within five minutes of the initial call to find heavy smoke in a first floor apartment.

 

Fire fighters and law enforcement evacuated the rest of the building.

 

A crew made entry and found the resident of the apartment on the floor of the apartment and was immediately removed to the outside to a waiting EMS crew. The resident was pronounced deceased on the scene. Two other residents were treated on the scene and released, with one additional resident being transported to the hospital for further treatment.

 

The fire was contained to one unit and was quickly extinguished.

 

The other units in the building experienced smoke and water damage.

 

All displaced residents were placed with family or aided by building management.

 

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

 

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office was called in to handle the investigation.
