Michael Dan Hathaway, 84, of Ellis Grove, Illinois, passed away at 2:44 pm, Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Red Bud Regional Care Center, Red Bud, Illinois.
He was born to the late Jack and Dorothy (nee Runge) Hathaway on January 9, 1939 in Chester, Illinois.
Michael married Myrtle A. Guethle on November 2, 1959 in Chester, Illinois; she preceded him in death on July 26, 2012.
He had worked as a laborer for the Laborer’s Local #925 for over 45 years.
Michael was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #72 in Chester, Mississippi Valley Gun Club, Amateur Trap Shooter’s Association and was a Local Union President #925. Michael also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors: two sons: Michael (Kay) Hathaway of Steeleville, IL and Timothy (Kelley) Hathaway of Ellis Grove, IL; two daughters: Debbie (Mark) Gibbs of Chester, IL and Susan Oettle of Ellis Grove, IL; 12 grandchildren: Aaron Gibbs, Adam (Tasha) Gibbs, Jamie (Brian) Schoenbeck, Julie (Ed) Draper, Nicholas Oettle, Kyle (Jaime) Oettle, Jack Hathaway, Faye Hathaway, Emma Hathaway, Flicity (Chase) Howard, Morgan Simers and Eric Simers; 11 great grandchildren: Kaitlin, Jade, Ralph, Kale, Emma, Connor, Grey, Cohen, Brooklyn, Lily and Tori and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents, wife, a son: Perry Hathaway, one brother: Lester “Skip” Hathaway and a sister: Peggy (Arlen) Busse.
It was Michael’s wish to be cremated.
Graveside service: 11 am, Friday, January 27, 2023 at the Ellis Grove City Cemetery, Ellis Grove, Illinois.
