HILLSBORO – The Jefferson College Friday Speaker Series will continue with presentations in February, March, and April. Each event lasts from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Student Center Cafe on the Hillsboro campus.
Programs include:
February 17 – “St. Louis Love Stories” presented by Amanda Clark, community tours manager for the Missouri Historical Society. The presentation takes a fun in depth look at several love stories in St. Louis history such as Dred and Harriet Scott, Frankie and Johnny, and Ulysses S. Grant and Julia Dent as well as other well and less known stories of how love has the power to change history.
March 17 – “Missouri Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum” presented by Haley Stodart, manager of volunteers and visitor services at the museum. Hear a compelling and captivating account of a Holocaust survivor or descendant while learning more about the museum that has become a trusted resource in St. Louis and beyond.
April 21 – “Ulysses S. Grant National History Site” presented by Nick Sacko, acting historian and site curator. The Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site is a smaller National Park near St. Louis that was the home of our nation’s 18th president and acclaimed Civil War general. He was a son, husband, father, and friend whose often-contradictory actions were shaped by his background and sense of responsibility. Learn more about a complicated man and his history in the Show Me state.
Admission to each presentation is $10 per person, which includes a buffet lunch with beverages and dessert. Because space is limited, advance reservations are recommended.
Friday Speaker Series presenters represent a broad spectrum of fields and subjects including regional, national and international agencies and organizations; regional landmarks; education; historical events; professional sports; and film and television.
