COVID-19 count falls in Mo, rises in Ste. Genevieve County

JEFFERSON CITY – The number of new COVID-19 cases in Missouri dropped from the previous number.

 

This week 5,100 new cases were reported by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The previous week, the number was 6,286.

 

There were 25 new cases in Ste. Genevieve County compared to 18 the previous week. That is about 73 per 100,000 population.

 

There were 14 new cases in Perry County compared to 16 the previous week. That is about 73 per 100,000 population.

 

Bollinger County had fewer than 10 new cases, compared to 11 the previous week. That is about 66 per 100,000 population.

 

St. Francois County had 50 new cases, compared to 90 the previous week. That is about 75 per 100,000 population.

 

Cape Girardeau County had 69 new cases, compared to 281 the previous week. That is about 57 per 100,000 population.

 

Jefferson County had 195 new cases, compared to 281 the previous week. That is about 86 per 100,000 population.

The increase in COVID 19 cases in Ste. Genevieve has pushed it back into the red or high community level along with the nearby counties of St. Francois and Jefferson.

 

The CDC recommends the following measures for people in areas that are rated at High Community Level for COVID-19 transmission:

  • Wear a well-fitting mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status (including in K-12 schools and other indoor community settings)
  • If you are immunocompromised or high risk for severe disease
    • Wear a mask or respirator that provides you with greater protection
    • Consider avoiding non-essential indoor activities in public where you could be exposed
    • Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to take other precautions
    • Have a plan for rapid testing if needed (e.g., having home tests or access to testing)
    • IF YOU TEST POSITIVE: Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you are a candidate for treatments like oral antivirals, and monoclonal antibodies
  • If you have household or social contact with someone at high risk for severe disease
    • consider self-testing to detect infection before contact
    • consider wearing a mask when indoors with them
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters
  • Maintain improved ventilation throughout indoor spaces when possible
  • Follow CDC recommendations for isolation and quarantine, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19.

 

The other immediate counties: Perry, Bollinger and Cape Girardeau, are all in the green or low community level.
