Dwayne ‘Smitty’ Alan Smith

Dwayne “Smitty” Alan Smith passed away December 22nd, 2022 peacefully in his sleep in Paducah, Kentucky.

 

Smitty was born September 26, 1959 in Chester, Illinois to Margie Eggemeyer and Walter Smith.

 

Smitty loved working with his hands and ran a successful body shop for many years. He could frequently be found in his garage working on many different projects. He was very proud to recently have helped complete a restoration of his grandson Isac’s truck.

 

Most recently he was working for Easton Trucking Company as an over the road driver. Smitty cherished his relationships with his family and friends.

 

He is survived by his wife Karen Smith. They were married on July 24, 2010 at the Ebenezer Church in Rockwood, Ill.

He is survived by a large family including six children, Amanda (Jace) Wilderman of Chester, IL, Ed (Dawn) Smith of Chester, IL, Rebecca Shrout of O’Fallon, MO, Steven (Brittnae) Vaccaro of Bonne Terre, MO, Danielle (Danny Jr.) Lunsford of Oakridge, MO, Matthew(Abigail) Smith of Chester, IL. 16 grandchildren Gavin/Drew Wilderman, Michael Smith, Isac Smith, Korra/Harley/Sophia/Ellie Lunsford, Kayleigh/Sarah/Aiden/Jordan Shrout, Tucker/Mason/Hope Vaccaro, Layla White. He is also survived by 8 siblings, and several nieces and nephews.

 

​He is preceded in death by his mother- Margie Eggemeyer, father – Walter Smith, brother- William Taitt, and nephew -Bradley Eggemeyer.

His wish was to be cremated.

 

A memorial service is scheduled for January 28, 2023 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Chester, IL. Visitation from 10am – 12pm followed by a service at 12pm.

 

Memorial lunch to be followed at Moose lodge, all friends and family are welcome.
