STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve American Legion Post 150 is seeking the city’s okay for a plan to construct a static display of a military item on its property at 2 Park Drive.
According to a letter to the city signed by Post Commander Virgil Boyer and Vice Commander Warren Jokerst the Legion has been in contact with Eighth District Congressman Jason Smith’s office about installing a static display of something – perhaps a Huey helicopter at the Legion Hall.
The letter states that according to standard procedures for the U.S. Donation Program, the post must obtain written consent from the city and the county to construct this tribute to servicemen and women and veterans.
The letter included a photograph of a possible display type – such as a Huey helicopter – that they might be seeking.
The letter indicates getting approval from the federal government could take as long as two years.
Once that happens the post will determine the cost of preparing the site for the display. If the cost is within the budget of the post, they will move forward toward completion. If not, they will then let the city and county know that they will not be moving forward with the project.
The post official say if the project is completed, it will become a display that the city, county and American Legion Post 150 can and will be proud of for years to come.
The proposal is on the agenda for Thursday’s work session of the Ste Gen Board of Aldermen.
