Joan L. Jokerst

A funeral will be held Saturday, January 7, 2023 for 89-year-old Joan L. Jokerst of Zell, Mo. who passed away Monday, January 2, 2023 at Riverview at the Park in Sainte Genevieve, Mo.

 

She was born June 9, 1933 in Perryville, Mo., the daughter of Lloyd Layton and Eleanor (Moonier) Layton who both preceded her in death. 

 

She married Flavian A. Jokerst August 20, 1960. He preceded her in death.

 

She is survived by four daughters:  Gail (James) Mueller of Bloomsdale, Mo., Kimberly (Dale) Basler of Zell, Mo., Connie (Brian) Naeger of Sainte Genevieve, Mo. and Kathy (Charles “Chip”) Marzuco of Sainte Genevieve, Mo.; two sisters: Sharon Pingel of Perryville, Mo. and Jackie (Doug) Estes of Perryville, Mo.; grandchildren: Christopher and Nathan Mueller; Brandon Basler and Emily (Logan) Giesler; Adam (Jessica), Aaron (Melissa), Benjamin (Elizabeth) and Nicholas (Raegen) Naeger; Maria and Abby Marzuco; nine great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by a sister: Velda Barks; three brothers: Robert Layton, William Layton, and Glenn Layton; and a grandson Andrew Marzuco.

 

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2023 and 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Basler Funeral Home in Sainte Genevieve, Mo.

 

A funeral for 89-year-old Joan L. Jokerst of Zell, Mo. will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the St. Joseph Church in Zell, Mo. The Rev. Msgr. Jeffrey Knight will officiate.

 

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Zell, Mo.

 

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Joseph Parish.

 

She was a member of St. Joseph Ladies Sodality, St. Joseph Adult Choir, Legion of Mary, St. Joseph Altar Society, Chairperson of Lady of Fatima Grotto.

 

Joan was devoted to her faith and her parish of St. Joseph in Zell, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, bowling, playing pitch, going to the casino.

 

Joan spent most of her time caring and cooking for her family.

 

Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
