Illinois State Police investigate three-vehicle Union County traffic crash with one fatality

DUQUOIN – The Illinois State Police is investigating a three-vehicle crash on Route 3 in Union County which killed one person and injured one.

 

According to the ISP report:

 

A 2001 Ford Crown Victoria driven by a 73-year-old Jonesboro, Illinois man was traveling south on Illinois Route 3  near Refuge Road when it crossed the center-line and drove into oncoming northbound traffic. Police have not yet identified the man who perished in the crash.

 

The Ford sideswiped a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 57-year-old Aaron Lee of De Soto, Illinois. His car struck a guardrail and drove into a ditch. Lee was unhurt.

 

The Ford then struck a northbound 2005 Nissan Frontier driven by 59-year-old Peggy E. Duty of Jonesboro, Illinois. She was transported to an area hospital with injuries.

 

The 73-year-old driver of the Ford was pronounced at the scene by the Union County coroner.
