PERRYVILLE — It may have been a holiday weekend, but that didn’t keep Perry County Firefighters from doing their job.
Three house fires and a service call for broken water line were reported over the weekend.
At 9:10 p.m. Friday, firefighters were called out to the 300 block of South Shelby. It started upstairs in a closet, spread throughout and gutted the house. The Perryville Public Works Department responded to the scene with a snow plow and salt spreader.
Then Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m. at the Estates of Perryville, the Perryville Fire Department was called out by a report of water leaks in the fire suppression sprinkler system. The water caused the collapse of ceilings in some rooms and a hallway.
A fire was reported at 8:15 a.m. Saturday in the 12000 block of Route A in Frohna. The house rekindled later in the day and the Perryville Fire Department returned to the scene to assist the East Perry Department.
Around 6 p.m. the same day, again according to reports, the fire department was called to the 300 block of Magnolia. A blaze was reported in a two-story home at that location. Perryville was assisted by Biehle. Perryville Public Works was called out to provide a snow plow to clear the way for the fire engines to approach the blaze. A salt spreader was also called to the scene so firefighters could stand up and fight the fire. The residents were safe and received assistance from the Ministerial Alliance.
Meanwhile in Ste. Genevieve County Kinsey firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in the 5300 block of Valley View Road at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday evening. When they arrived, the residents had already been evacuated, and found a fully involved structure with extension to a neighboring structure. Crews battled below freezing temperatures and extreme wind before the alarm was placed under control. There were no injuries reported.
