SGHS students participate in ‘Build My Future’ event

STE GENEVIEVE — This year, Ste. Genevieve High School students joined nearly 2,000 of their peers from a 25-county area at the annual “Build My Future Southeast Missouri” on Oct. 5 at the Sikeston Jaycees Bootheel Rodeo Grounds.

They were able to explore several different industries and the technology currently utilized by businesses within those industries. The event featured 24 construction industry exhibitors providing hands-on, interactive experiences, including architecture, bricklaying, construction, electrical wiring, heavy equipment operation, laying asphalt, lineman exhibit, pouring concrete, plumbing, tile laying, virtual reality simulations, and welding, among others.

The event was organized by the Missouri chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. Students also had the opportunity to speak with numerous representatives in the industry.

“We would like to share a special thank you to Mr. Thompson, Mr. Rapp, Mr. Mueller, and Mrs. Sulkowski for arranging the trip and exposing our students to opportunities for their future!” a school official stated.
