Rep. Friess’ district director tours Rock City facility

RED BUD, Ill. – On November 30th, 2022, State Representative Friess’ District Director, Cathy, had the great pleasure of touring Rock City – an Admiral Parkway Development. The tour was coordinated by Edie Koch of Monroe County Economic Development Corp. The tour was arranged to promote the advantages of the massive underground facility.

Kyle Kane shared detailed information about the facility and the benefits a business may gain by moving here.  Advantages include the elimination or reduction of standard operating costs.  A business may add to its bottom line while focusing on increasing sales and production efficiency. Additionally, Rock City maintains the capacity to accommodate seasonal surges in a company’s business requirements.

Some of the businesses that currently lease space in the facility are the National Archives, Blue Line – Food Service Distribution, Cargill, Branding Iron, and Louisa. There are miles of well-maintained, tractor-trailer-friendly streets. The facility is energy efficient by nature, with a year-round 58-degree ambient temperature. The temperature allows tenants to benefit from 40-70% savings over above-ground climate control options.  Cathy noted that “The photos attached do not do justice to the enormity of the facility. The ceiling heights vary from 40 to 60 feet. The facility seems to never end. Standing inside makes you feel very small.”

The facility includes an office space build-out that, if you didn’t know otherwise, gives the impression you were in an above-ground warehouse. The only areas that remind you you are in an underground facility are the occasional stone walls. “I have personally toured hundreds of manufacturing and logistics companies. When I first entered the facility, I admit, I had a bit of trepidation, but it was soon eased by the sheer space.  The breeze that flows through the facility from side to side made me feel as though I was outside. It’s well-lit, and the street that runs through the facility is an underground highway.” noted Cathy.

With today’s energy cost skyrocketing and the ever-increasing cost of industrial space, it makes good business sense to be open to alternatives. Admiral Parkway, Inc. is a groundbreaking (no pun intended) corporation with innovative concepts that will be of great benefit to our community. We look forward to seeing what is in store for them in the future.
