Large turnout for November CACFP Mobile Market

CHESTER — Volunteers were out in force at the November 23 CACFP Mobile Market to unload and sort a large quantity of food items supplied by the St. Louis Area Food Bank for the Annual Thanksgiving Mobile Market food giveaway.

The CACFP makes it a goal to always offer a large variety of special food items at the Thanksgiving giveaway so that all clients are able to provide a full Thanksgiving meal to their families.

This is the line of automobiles that lined up for the 2022 Thanksgiving Mobile Market sponsored by the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry. Notice that there are seven rows of cars and trucks compared to a normal 4-or-5 rows.

The Thanksgiving Mobile Market is typically one of the biggest events of the calendar year and 2022 was no exception. The November Market featured 110 vehicles with approximately 126 vouchers served.

Pierce volunteered as a member of the Chester VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Brown was volunteering as a member of Grace Church Ministries. For a normal Mobile Market there are approximately 25-30 volunteers.

 

In this market some of the items being offered included pies, pizza, ice cream, bags of potatoes, breads, cakes. fresh apples, shrimp scampi, chicken & rice bowls, Crustables, Drumsticks, Frito-Lay products, Velvetta Marconi and cheese, milk, candies, crackers, a whole fresh frozen turkey and a Thanksgiving “Meal-in-a Box” big enough with side dishes to feed an entire family.

 

The next Mobile Market will be the Annual Christmas Mobile Market held Wednesday December 21 at 8:00 a.m. at the Cohen Recreation Complex in Chester.
