Sparta, Illinois man escapes injury in Phelps Co., Missouri crash

JEFFERSON CITY — A 39-year-old Sparta, Illinois man escaped injury in a traffic crash Sunday afternoon on I-44 in Phelps County, Mo.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Wilkes Marquis was the driver of a westbound 2020 Hino box truck which ran off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway and then ran off the right side of the roadway a second time.

 

At that point Marquis over-corrected and his truck crossed the center of the roadway and struck a westbound 2015 International tractor driven by 66-year-old Michael Green of Grafton, Illinois.

 

Green’s vehicle was forced off the left side of the roadway and struck an orange traffic cone and came to rest on the left shoulder.

 

Meanwhile Marquis box truck continued sliding sideways until he regained control and continued westbound from the scene.

 

Green had minor injuries and said he would seek his own medical treatment later.

 

Each vehicle had minor damage and was driven from the scene.
