CALL TO ORDER: 5:30 p.m.

Financial report was included in packet with the tourism budget, lodging tax receipts and balance of $67,795.83.  1st Donna Rausch, 2nd Geoff Giglierano, All Ayes

 

Old Business

 

Tourism Director Job Description – Happy Welch discussed the updated job description as completed by the task force.  The job title is now Tourism Marketing Director.  Emphasis is placed on creating a marketing plan and executing it.  Other responsibilities include overseeing personnel at the Welcome Center, data collection, grant writing, maintaining the website and social media presence and communicating with other department heads.  The salary is $45,000 to $50,000.  It was emphasized that the position needs to be seeking input from the Tourism Tax Commission and Tourism Advisory Council. Tour responsibilities was removed from the job duties.  Individual tours will have their manager coordinate directly with the local attractions.  There was some discussion about the director being a liaison with the county and future possibilities of the tourism tax.

 

Approval of the Tourism Marking Director job description: 1st Geoff Giglierano, 2nd Susan Johnson, All Ayes

 

Motion to use the same task force (Dena Kreitler, Nicole French, Laura Oliver and Happy Welch) to screen and review applications, conduct initial interviews and make recommendations to the Tourism Tax Commission and Tourism Advisory Council as to the candidates for second round interviews. 1st Susan Johnson, 2nd Geoff Giglierano,  All Ayes.

 

Welcome Center Staff update – Happy Welch reported there is  a new hire for the Welcome Center.  Her name is Mary Moss, and she will be working Wednesdays and Thursdays and will train with Jan. 

 

Rack Cards – TTC/TAC pick style – staff will price and get them printed; Continue with CTM distribution at a cost of $345.00/month? – The board had much discussion regarding Rack Cards.  They came to a consensus to add a QR code, add Missouri’s 1st Permanent Settlement at the top and background colors.  It was also noted that the expense of the rack card distributor was coming out of general funds, and it should be coming out of tourism funds. 

 

New Business:

 

Christmas Marketing – Audacy, Columbia Missourian – There will be radio ads before the festival on KBDZ and KSGM (Donze Communications) then the groups were asked about online ads with Audacy (KEZK) and promoting through their social media focusing on shopping.  There was discussion of the target age demographics being 35-64.  The board then came to a consensus to purchase a ½ page vertical in Columbia Missourian that they will design and cost $375.00.  Both were approved by the group. 

 

Partnership with Explore St. Louis – Geoff Giglierano asked consideration to utilize an Explore St. Louis partnership for their service for regional distribution of our Rack Cards.  This opportunity will be brought up again when discussing next year’s budget.  Cost to be a partner is $450 to $850. 

 

Other Business – Upcoming festivals were discussed.  Dena Kreitler discussed the opportunity for the city to facilitate a tourism round table and the Chamber of Commerce will participate.
