Evelyn M. Muench

A funeral will be held Thursday for 93-year-old Evelyn M. Muench of Red Bud, Illinois, who passed away peacefully at 7:03 am, Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Garden Place, Red Bud, Illinois.

 

She was born to the late Alfred F. “Bank” and Norma (nee Burgdorf) Guebert on January 28, 1929 in Red Bud, Illinois.

 

Evelyn married Vernon Muench on August 5, 1951 at St. John Lutheran Church, Baldwin, Illinois; he survives in Red Bud.

 

She is also survived by four daughters: Nadine (Randy) Surey of Grand Rapids, Mich., Marcia (Jim) Adams of Jerseyville, Ill., Jan (Steve) Harmon of St. Louis; and Laurie (John) Gower of Fenton; five grandchildren: Peter Surey, Ben (Liz) Harmon, Lee (Travis) Besel, Jill Harmon, and Brooke Harmon, three bonus grandchildren: Heather (Cameron) Bennett, Jamie Adams and Rebecca Gower; three great grandchildren: Charlotte Surey, Judah Besel, and Ava Harmon; a sister: Doris Zschiegner St. Louis; two brothers: Glenn (Ruth) Guebert of Evansville, Ill. and Jim (Judy) Guebert of Red Bud, Ill. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

 

Preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Eileen Hanebutt and a brother: Don Guebert.

 

Evelyn graduated from Red Bud High School and attended Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Illinois. In 1947 she began teaching at St. Peter’s Lutheran School in Evansville where she taught Grades 1-6. In 1949 she moved to St. John’s Lutheran School in Red Bud where she taught for several years. She served as Assistant Librarian, and later Librarian, at Red Bud Public Library for 25 years. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, singing in the church choir, and spending time with family.

 

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Garden Place in Red Bud and Maple Creek Hospice of Sparta.

 

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Pechacek Funeral Home in Red Bud, Ill. and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Lutheran Church in Red Bud, Ill.

 

A funeral for 93-year-old Evelyn M. Muench of Red Bud will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at St. John Lutheran Church, Red Bud, Illinois. The Rev. Mark Nebel will officiate.

 

Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Red Bud, Ill.
