Seven suspects in custody in connection with crime spree

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Police Department yesterday announced seven suspects were in custody in connection with a stolen vehicle and several thefts from vehicles in the community.

 

According to the announcement, the seven suspects were captured after a high speed pursuit started downtown and ended in the county.

 

Police Chief Jasen Crump is looking for more victims: “If your vehicle was entered please contact the Ste. Genevieve Police Department and citizens who have any information of suspicious persons or video footage from home surveillance please contact this agency.

 

Chief Crump said the main areas targeted, but not limited to, are Biltmore Street and Wynncrest Apartments on Progress Parkway.

 

The suspect vehicle is a red Ford Explorer with dark tinted windows.

 

All known vehicles that were entered were unlocked.

 

Please make sure your vehicles,  homes and other valuables are locked to assist in preventing you from becoming a victim.

 

The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s Office provided this information on Thursday night’s incident.

 

At approximately 12:18 a.m. deputies were traveling east on Center Drive, assisting Ste. Genevieve City Police Department in locating a vehicle wanting for questioning on incidents that occurred within the City Limits. Deputies observed a red in color vehicle, matching the description of the vehicle they were searching for, stopped on Rozier Street, at the stop sign. The vehicle was a 2014, red, Ford Explorer.

 

Deputies position their vehicle behind the Ford, activated their lights and sirens and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Center Drive near South Gabouri. The vehicle accelerated failing to yield and continued on center Drive towards Washington street. The vehicle traveled throughout the city limits and then out into the county and onto Highway 61 north towards Bloomsdale. The vehicle attempted to make a left turn onto State Route O before running of the roadway and crashing off the right shoulder.

 

Seven occupants exited the vehicle. six occupants were taken into custody and one fled on foot. The seventh occupant was later located and taken into custody as well.

 

Three juveniles and three adults were transported to the Ste. Genevieve County Jail. One juvenile was transported to Mercy Hospital, Jefferson with injuries sustained from the accident.

 

Juvenile authorities were contacted and the juveniles were released to them. The remaining adults are being held pending application of warrants.
