Community Counseling Center Foundation to hold Second Annual Mary Mingle 5K

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The Community Counseling Center Foundation will hold its 2nd

Annual Mary Mingle 5K on Saturday, December 10th in downtown Cape Girardeau with an 8 a.m. start.

The run/walk event was a huge success in its inaugural year, boasting 164 registered

participants.

The holiday-themed walk/run 5K race will be professionally timed by Red Runner Racing. First, second and third place will be awarded in age categories for men and women 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.

Mary Mingle will begin at Mary Jane bourbon + smokehouse across from Houck Fieldhouse, make its way through downtown Cape, and end at Minglewood at the corner of Broadway and Spanish Streets.

More than just a morning of fun activity, this walker/ runner-friendly event supports the Community Counseling Center Foundation to restore, bring hope, motivate, and inspire healing to mental health clients living with the challenges of mental illnesses and mental health disorders in its five-county service area. Additionally, each registration fee collected is designated to provide Christmas gifts for the Community Counseling Center’s 160 plus

residential clients.

According to the Community Counseling Center Foundation, Executive Director Michelle

Ramsey, net proceeds from the 2021 Mary Mingle 5K was over $14,000, and the 164 registrations allowed the Foundation to cover the cost of a Christmas gift for each of its residents. Ramsey is hopeful this years’ 2nd Annual Mary Mingle will meet or exceed last years’ race.

Event organizer Brandy McIntire adds, “This event would not be possible without support from the community. The runners and walkers who come out to participate, the many volunteers who direct runners along the course, and numerous local businesses who generously sponsor the event all make it a huge success.”

Both McIntire and Ramsey are anticipating even larger numbers of participants and sponsors this year.

“We have seen an increase in registrations earlier this year, as well as new sponsorships,” said Ramsey. “It’s such a great event for an incredibly noble cause,” she added. “Such a great event for an incredibly noble cause. So many community members and their families came out to support the Mary Mingle 5K last year, and I believe when they left, they all had a little bit of a better idea of who the

Community Counseling Center Foundation is. This fundraiser makes a huge impact on our fundraising efforts, and we’re so excited to host it again,” said Ramsey.

“Whether you run, walk or are a sponsor, you are helping to make an impact, and for that we are extremely grateful for your generosity” stated McIntire.

Mary Mingle is a Christmas themed race, and participants are encouraged to dress the

part. This year we will have prizes for the ugliest holiday sweater, the largest team in costume,

and the most holiday spirit.

Early bird registration is $25, registration the day of event is $30. Those who register by November 25th will receive a long-sleeve Sport Tek Mary Mingle shirt.
