BLS looks at Missouri job gains, losses 2017-2022

KANSAS CITY – The Mountain-Plains Information Office of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has released Business Employment Dynamics in Missouri – First Quarter 2022.

Regional Commissioner Michael Hirniak noted these Missouri highlights:

 

  • In Missouri, from December 2021 to March 2022, private industry establishments gained 154,875 gross jobs, while losing 130,222 gross jobs, resulting in a net gain of 24,653 jobs. (See chart 1.)
  • Gross job gains represented 6.5% of private sector employment in Missouri in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the national rate of 6.6%.
  • Gross job losses represented 5.4% of private-sector employment for both Missouri and nationally in the quarter ended in March 2022.
  • Data are also available by industry sector. During the first quarter of 2022, gross job gains exceeded gross job losses in 10 of the 11 industry sectors in Missouri.
