Sam Drury is Valle Elks Student of the Month

STE. GENEVIEVE – Samuel Marvin Drury has been named the Valle Elks Student of the Month.

Sam is the son of Derek and Kim Drury of Bloomsdale.

Sam’s academic achievements include being ranked at the top of his class and maintaining high honors throughout high school. He received the All-State Academic award in football his sophomore year. He has been a Scholar Athlete all four years of high school. He was named Outstanding Algebra II student, received the High Performance Award in German, the Positive Class Leadership Award in English II, Top 5 GPA in World History, Theology Award (98+), and was named Top Advanced Biology Student his junior year.

 

Sam is an active member of the Valle Catholic student body. He has been a member of student council all four years, serving as president his senior year. He was junior class president and also inducted into the National Honor Society. He has been a member of the Loud Crowd and a Student Ambassador for four years, acting as Lead Ambassador the last two years. Sam has been a liturgical minister for two years. He was the Freshman Homecoming Escort and a junior prom court nominee.

 

Sam has played three sports throughout his high school career, including football, basketball and track and field. He was named one of the football captains this year. He was part of the 2021 4×100 relay team that broke the school record that dated back to 1985. He received the MSHSAA Award of Excellence as a sophomore, nominated by the coaches at Valle Catholic. He received the Effort/Attitude Award for football his sophomore year, and the Hustle Award in basketball. He recently received the Leah Search Memorial Scholarship, given to a student intending to major in education.

 

He has volunteered his time at grade school basketball camps, Operation Overhaul, and Totus Tuus.

 

Sam is a service manager at River Rapids Waterpark in the summer and a referee for RW Thomas youth basketball games during the winter.

 

He is considering attending the University of Mississippi after graduation where he plans to study secondary education with an emphasis in math, and psychology. He would like to become a guidance counselor and a coach.
