Eric Bennett leaves Ste. Genevieve police chief post

STE. GENEVIEVE— Ste. Genevieve Mayor Paul Hassler bids Police Chief Eric Bennett farewell.

This photograph of Bennett with Mayor Hassler was posted on the city hall Facebook page Monday.

The photograph was accompanied by the following statement: “Best Wishes to Chief Eric Bennett as he leaves Ste. Genevieve for new challenges.  Thank you for building a quality police department with committed professionals.  We will miss your smile and quick witted movie quotes.”

City hall says Bennett submitted a resignation letter, but has not yet released it to the Sun Times News Online. A request for the letter under the Missouri Sunshine Law has been made.

A successor to Bennett has not been announced. City Clerk Pam Meyer said Lt. Jason Crump would serve in the interim.
