The Max Upchurch Excellence Through Scouting Foundation

STE. GENEVIEVE – The family of Max Upchurch is proud to announce that a not for profit 501(c) 3 organization “The Max Upchurch Excellence Though Scouting Foundation” has been created to honor Max’s legacy.

The Max Upchurch Excellence Through Scouting Foundation’s mission is to ensure that Max’s legacy lives on by supporting the scouting communities in Ste. Genevieve County.

The foundation strives to participate in helping with recruitment, camping, high adventure trips, annual dues, equipment, training, travel, and other events that foster Scouting and leadership development.

Max Upchurch moved to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri in July of 2008 at the age of eight. He attended all three levels of schooling in Ste. Genevieve County and graduated from Ste. Genevieve High School in 2018.

During his time in Ste. Genevieve, Max joined Troop 410 in Bloomsdale and became active in scouting. He had learned the passion and importance of this organization from his father and brother, who were both Eagle Scouts.

Max was truly blessed to have a supportive family that was actively involved in his journey and a father who led his troop as Scoutmaster for several years. Max attended Summer Camp each year at S bar F Scout Ranch. His Eagle Scout Project was a support wall at the American Legion in Bloomsdale that stopped the parking lot from continuously getting filled with dirt during large storms.

Max truly made the community better, and gained a great deal of leadership and life skills from his time in scouting.

In May of 2016, Max became the third member of his family to achieve the Eagle Scout Award.

He went on to study Secondary Math Education at Missouri State University. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in December of 2021.

Just two weeks later, Max died in a tragic accident that took his family and friends by shock. Max was a person who deserves a legacy. He was too young to leave us. In his short 21 years, he had made such an impression on the world, we should all strive to live our lives like him.

Max truly believed in the Scouting Way, and we know he would appreciate any support you can give to an organization that molded him into the man that he became.
